Denpasar, the capital city of Bali, is a growing metropolis of over 350,000 people. Visit the local market of Kumbasari where you can find a wide range of fruits and vegetables, clothing, spices, baskets, ritual paraphernalia, stainless and bamboo cooking utensils and much more. Next, go the Bali Museum, with its striking architecture and Pura Jagatnatha, a state temple. The museum was built by the Dutch government in 1932 and presents a commendable survey of Balinese art from prehistoric times to the early 20th century. A stop is made at Werdi Budaya Art Center where a permanent exhibition of modern Balinese paintings and woodcarving can be seen.
